Biography
Dr. María Noel Cabrera is a Chemical Engineer from the Universidad de la República, Uruguay. She holds a Master’s degree in Pulp and Paper Engineering and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the same university. Her doctoral research focused on lignocellulosic biorefineries and was titled “Valorization of Hemicelluloses from Eucalyptus Wood.”
She also holds a Diploma in Governance and Public Innovation from the University of Montevideo (Uruguay) in collaboration with CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Dr. Cabrera is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Chemical Engineering, Engineering School, Universidad de la República (Uruguay), and since 2023 she has served as Head of the Chemical Engineering Program. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Chemical Engineering and Pulp and Paper Engineering Master’s Program (which also coordinates).
Since 2010, her research has focused on pulp production, forest bioeconomy, and lignocellulosic biorefineries. She has participated in more than 20 R&D&I projects in these areas and has authored over 25 publications in high-impact scientific journals. She has also contributed to and led technical training activities, collaborative agreements, advisory work, and consulting projects for the productive sector, government agencies in Uruguay, and international funding organizations.
